Background Screening

Thanks for your interest in coaching a youth athletic team in one of the upcoming Republic Parks and Recreation Department’s leagues. On September 14, 2015, members of the Republic City Council voted to adopt a Background Screening Policy for Volunteers which included all youth athletic head coaches and head co-coaches within the Republic Parks and Recreation Department. The policy requires said coaches to successfully pass a background check against the criteria for exclusion before being allowed to coach. The primary purpose of the policy is to preserve the safety and well-being of all persons who choose to participate in programs offered by the City of Republic Parks and Recreation Department.

Limitations to Activities

No team will be placed on the schedule and allowed to participate in any Republic Parks and Recreation Department youth athletic league before the head coach or head co-coaches successfully pass the required background check. Additionally, no head coach or head co-coaches will be allowed to pick up players off of the individual sign-up list held at the Republic Parks and Recreation Department’s offices before successfully passing the required background check.

If you should have any questions in regards to the Background Screening Policy for Volunteers or this process, please contact Chris Arnold, Athletic Supervisor, or Jared Keeling, Parks and Recreation Director, at 417-732-3500. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
